Great effects of rose essential oil

By 8:05 PM , ,

Normally, when we think of roses, we think of their beauty and their luxurious scent. What is less known about roses is that they have health benefits. Essential oils, which are made by extracting plant essences, are used for their healing properties.
According to "The A-Z Guide to Healing with Essential Oils":
Aromatherapy," by Shelagh Masline and Barbara Close, rose is the most popular essential oil".

Masline and Close explain that the rose group includes hundreds of varieties. They say rose goes well with the essential oils sandalwood, neroli, lavender and jasmine. The rose essential oil with the greatest health benefits comes from the damask rose and is called either otto or attar. "The Aromatherapy Kit," by Charla Devereux, explains that to make the rose absolute variety of essential oil, oils are taken out of the petals with solvents, while in rose otto they are removed by steam distillation. Rose essential oils generally come from France, Bulgaria, Turkey and Morocco.

Rose is generally used to ease emotional and mental complaints. Masline and Close explain that rose oil creates changes in the brain, which can calm you. Rose's calming and balancing effects have been found to provide relief for PMS, menopause, stress, insomnia and stress. Aside from mental health, rose can also relieve some physical health symptoms including sore throats and headaches. Devereux shows that rose has potent antiseptic qualities, but is more gentle than most essential oils.

Rose is generally an expensive essential oil. Masline and Close explain that this is because two thousand pounds of rose petals are needed for a single pound of the oil. An less expensive option is to buy a hydrosol, which is made of rose oil mixed with water. This way, you still get the healing scent, but for a lower price.

There are different ways to use the essential oil of rose to reap its benefits. Put a few drops into one tablespoon of a carrier oil, such as almond, jojoba or canola oil. This can be rubbed into the skin, which will benefit you through inhalation and skin absorption. Also, try putting a few drops in an aromatherapy diffuser, which will disperse the scent for you to inhale. Rose also works well dropped into a bath, put on a warm damp compress, or gargled in water to relieve mouth sores, bad breath and sore throats.

Masline and Close warn that many sellers secretly mix rose with other oils to reduce costs. Thus, they recommend knowing from whom you are buying rose essential oil. With any essential oils, be careful when and where you use them. Essential oils are highly concentrated and need to be diluted in oil or water. If you are applying them to your skin, do a spot test first to check for allergies. Consult a certified aromatherapist to guide your use of essential oils.
